"Here I am, Lord" (2005)

In the summer of 2005 Evangelion Chorale made its fifth biennial trip to Ukraine. We traveled from July 14-27, 2005, singing in the finest venues of Cherkassy, Kiev, Rivne, Lutsk, and L'viv, Ukraine. This CD was produced in Benson Hall at Bethel University in preparation for that remarkable time of unique ministry. Evangelion, which means "good news" in Greek, was formed in 1998 exclusively for the purpose of bringing the joy, light, and hope of the Gospel to the people of Ukraine, a life-giving message denied them by the Soviet government for over 70 years. Ensemble members are professional musicians, business women and men, teachers, ministers, medical doctors, and homemakers. The uniting force is our love for music and our commitment to the mission of Evangelion.

This year's tour was dedicated to the courage and fortitude of the Ukrainian people who demonstrated a deep love for freedom during their 2004 political elections. Prayer for Two Countries, which has become a signature piece for Evangelion and was arranged by bass, Jon Venker, includes their national hymn Prayer for Ukraine. This stirring piece which the Ukrainian people were forbidden to sing during the years of communist rule, was sung spontaneously by protesters in Independence Square during the Orange Revolution of December 2004. We proudly and humbly dedicate it to our Ukrainian friends.
